The Bridge over the River Kwai

During World War II, the japanese invaded Thailand. Because they needed to improve the transportation of threir soldiers, and supplies, they had to build much of their own in infrastructure, including railroads to transport troops and supplies from Burma throught Thailand. This meant that they had to build a bridge over the River Kwai in Thailand.
In order to accomplish this task, the Japanese used captured American, British and soldiers from other countries to do the labor.  The Bridge over the River Kwai was important because it allowed the Japanese to transport supplies and troops from China and other countries through Thailand into other strategic places in Southeast Asia. Because it was so important to the Japanese war strategy, it became an important target for the American and British Armies
Thailand also remembers those soldiers and sacrifices they made by performing a sound and light show for touists who come from all over the world to see a reenactment depicting the destruction of the bridge.
